Equity continues to advise members that they should be engaged as employees and not as independent contractors using an ABN.

Contractors miss out on almost all employment-related protections, such as minimum wages and paid leave entitlements like annual leave, sick leave and long service leave and contractors do not have rights relating to unfair dismissal.

Contractors can also have difficulty accessing bank loans for cars and houses and struggle to be approved for rental properties.

Equity’s ability to assist you if things go wrong at work will be affected because you do not have the same rights as employees.
