Lynn Gailey, a deeply respected figure in Australia’s film and television industry, passed away on 4 January 2026, leaving behind an enduring legacy of advocacy, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to the people who bring stories to life. 

Lynn made a significant and lasting contribution to the Australian screen landscape through her service as Director, Film Development at the Australian Film Commission and in roles ranging from continuity to production manager. Lynn served for many years as a Federal Policy Officer at the Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance (MEAA), a role in which she became widely known for her steady guidance, principled leadership, and fierce dedication to improving conditions for creative workers.  

Lynn was instrumental in helping shape policies that supported the growth and sustainability of the Australian entertainment sector. Lynn played a key role in shaping standards and supporting the industry’s growth. She was known for her commitment to ensuring safe and fair conditions, championing this when international productions came to Australia, helping to protect local crew and uphold professional standards. 

Lynn’s passing marks the loss of a passionate advocate and an industry leader whose influence shaped both policy and safe practices. Her work improved conditions for performers, crew, and creatives – a legacy that will continue to echo across Australia’s cultural landscape. 

A memorial service to celebrate Lynn’s life and contributions will be held on:
