MEAA, the union and industry advocate for Australia’s journalists, is concerned at news of the closure of Bauer Media’s iconic title, Cleo magazine, after 44 years.

MEAA Media director Katelin McInerney said: “It’s disappointing to see this happen to a magazine that has been an important agenda-setter throughout its history. It is clearly a tough environment, particularly for titles targeted at the youth market.

“We will be seeking to work with the company to ensure employees are treated properly and we would encourage the company to redeploy the affected staff elsewhere within the group,” she said.
