MEAA is seeking to fill a full time Lead Organiser position based in Sydney, but this position could also be filled in either Melbourne or Brisbane. The position is responsible for developing, managing and leading organising activities nationally, across all MEAA industries, as directed.
About the role
The Lead Organiser will assist MEAA industry section directors and organisers, working to operationalise MEAA’s strategic plan, with a focus on organising workers in priority industry campaigns.
The role reports to the MEAA Chief Executive and Campaigns Director.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement and manage operational organising plans in line with MEAA’s industry strategies and campaigns;
- Implement and promote organising practices, policies, strategies and systems that contribute to the unions goals, including diversity, inclusive workplaces, addressing discrimination and barriers to participation;
- Assist coordination and management of the work of the national team of organisers,
- Assist in campaign development, reviews and innovation
- Develop the union’s organising capability and support the development of Organisers.
Key selection criteria
A Lead Organiser demonstrates:
- A passion and drive to improve workers’ lives and achieving the goals of the Union.
- Ability to lead, motivate and educate union members and potential members;
- Ability to participate in the unions political and social justice agenda;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Experience as a lead organiser preferred but not essential;
- Ability to work flexible arrangements;
- Leadership development, including motivating and education others
- Excellent communication, messaging and rapport building skills.
- Experience in leading a team.
- Experience in organising strategy development, planning, and reporting.
- Ability to communicate and advocate to all political parties.
- Ability and willingness to travel within Australia to assist with relevant Lead duties.
To perform this job, you will also be required to have or obtain and maintain:
- A valid driver’s licence; and
Remuneration will depend on skills and experience.
