MEAA and The Walkley Foundation present: MEAA Journalist Code of Ethics 101
This first session takes a broad view of the Code and its values of honesty, fairness, independence and respect for the rights of others. The audience will hear the origins of the Code, how the Code is enforced, how complaints work.
There will also be discussion about the Code in practice – what does it look like in a working journalist’s day-to-day craft? The discussion will include conflicts of interest, attribution, sourcing, false equivalence, personal interest and protecting sources. Finally the panel will look at trust and integrity in the media, responding to research and surveys showing decreasing trust in the fake news/misinformation age.
The session will feature presentations, a panel discussion and an audience Q&A.
Tickets for this event are $10 plus booking fee, with all proceeds going to the Media Safety and Solidarity Fund.
