The MEAA News Corp house committee stands with its members and condemns the targeting of workers doing their job.

The abuse hurled at News Corp photographer Alison Wynd on Wednesday by Geelong's Bailey Smith is unacceptable. Alison Wynd was doing her job and had been invited to attend the training which was open to the media.

Too often it seems the blokes in footy talk down to women covering the sport.

Football players are representatives of their clubs.

Bailey Smith should know better.

While his apology to Alison is welcomed, it was 24 hours after the fact.

The fact this is not the first time Bailey Smith has behaved this way is concerning and Geelong boss Steve Hocking should question why it continues to happen.

The News Corp house committee also reminds the leaders of this company of the need to protect and support its staff who put themselves in harm's way to bring this country the news.

The standard you walk past is the standard you accept.
