National Industrial Officer

Description

MEAA has a vacancy for a National Industrial Officer based in either Sydney or Melbourne. The National Industrial Officer will negotiate with employers, represent members in workplaces and tribunals, and provide advice to members and internally to MEAA staff in collective and complex matters.

Qualifications: Industrial relations qualifications or equivalent experience are necessary.

Key Selection Criteria

Essential requirements:
  • A commitment to trade union principles of social justice, equality, solidarity, and collective action,;
  • A commitment to the rights of creative workers and a belief in a thriving and diverse cultural sector;
  • Experience as an industrial or legal officer in a union or in a similar environment;
  • A thorough understanding of relevant state and federal industrial legislation;
  • Negotiation skills and the ability to navigate competing interests to reach agreement;
  • Experience negotiating collective agreements; and
  • Ability to write fluently in a range of styles and formats.
Desirable:
  • Experience appearing in the Federal Circuit Court or Federal Court, and similar courts and tribunals will be highly regarded;
  • Legal and/or industrial relations qualifications;
  • Knowledge of contemporary industrial relations issues in the media, entertainment and arts sectors; and

The position is available on a full-time permanent basis with a package depending on skills and experience. Benefits include 12% superannuation, monthly accrued rostered days off, five weeks annual leave each year plus an additional three days leave between Christmas and New Year.
