2014 Press Freedom Media Dinner

02/05/2014
6:30pm - 11:00pm
Doltone House on Darling Island Wharf, Sydney

For journalists across the region, the situation is stark. Their attempts to scrutinise the powerful and report on issues vital to the public interest and democracy often lead to intimidation, injury, disappearance or death.

In many cases, those responsible for these crimes go unpunished and journalists’ families are left destitute with questions unanswered.

On May 2, 2014, the annual Press Freedom Australia Dinner will raise funds for the Media Safety and Solidarity Fund, which supports press freedom and assist journalists and their families in need.

Last year we donated nearly $34,000 to the bereaved children of media workers in Nepal and Sri Lanka. This time we will support the families of journalists killed in Taiphoon Haiyan and help rebuild the media in The Philippines.

This dinner attracts the who’s who of the media industry. It includes fine dining and wines before a live and silent auction to raise funds for the Media Safety and Solidarity Fund featuring original artworks by some of Australia’s top cartoonists and photographers.

Tables of 10 cost $3000 for media organisations and NGOs and $4000 for corporate/government supporters. Individual tickets cost $140 for members of the media and not-for-profit organisations and $300 for corporate/government

MEAA members can pay through progressive payments.  To book, contact Melissa McAllister on 1300 65 65 13 or via melissa.mcallister@alliance.org.au
