Media Diversity Australia’s ACT Chapter supported by MEAA is pleased to present Reforming Journalism’s Role in our Democracy: With guest speaker Peter Greste.

Guests will be treated to a guided walkthrough of the Truth, Power and a Free Press exhibition at the Museum of Australian Democracy

Award-winning journalist, author and academic Professor Peter Greste (Macquarie University) spent fifteen years with the BBC before he joined Al Jazeera as East Africa correspondent. In December 2013, whilst reporting for Al Jazeera, he was arrested in Egypt and charged with airing false news and terrorism offences. Within six months, he was found guilty under the country’s anti-terrorism laws and spent 400 days in prison before being released in February 2015.

Since returning to Australia, Peter has received numerous prestigious awards globally for his tireless efforts to protect press freedoms and in his campaigning for the freedom of journalists.
