The Asia Pacific Journalism Centre is calling for applications from Australian journalists for the fourth China Australia Journalist Exchange, to be held from 5 to 15 November, 2016, with the theme “Understanding the changing economic relationship”.

The exchange is an initiative of APJC and the All China Journalists Association aimed at broadening public understanding between the two countries.

The program provides a unique opportunity for journalists from each country to both take part in a study tour program exploring current issues related to the bilateral relationship and share their experiences in a one-day media dialogue.

The program allows for five Australian journalists to visit China and five Chinese journalists to visit Australia. In each country, journalists meet with government, business, NGOs, academics, journalists, and members of the community at large.

The program theme “Understanding the changing economic relationship” allows exploration of: economic growth in the two economies; development and innovation challenges; public policy, planning and regulatory processes; “other country” perspectives on strategic issues, and bi-lateral media coverage. Underlying this theme is the invitation to ask what each country can learn from the other both within and beyond the economic relationship.

The Australian journalists will first visit Foshan, Shenzhen and Guangzhou, the heart of the Pearl River Delta megalopolis in Guangdong Province and a testing ground for Chinese innovation, green technology, urban design, and local governance experimentation. They will then travel north to Beijing.

Representing APJC will be advisory board member Mark Baker, former China correspondent and senior Fairfax editor, and now chief executive of the Melbourne Press Club.
