6:30pm - 11:30pm
RACV Club, Level 17, 501 Bourke Street Melbourne
Forty years after the murder of six journalists in East Timor, Australian journalists remain under violent threat abroad and creeping official control at home.
Australia’s new national security laws are part of a concerted campaign to control information. They specifically and deliberately target legitimate reporting; they persecute and prosecute whistleblowers and the journalists who work with them.
Show your support for journalists here — and those who continue to be killed and jailed around the world — by joining us at the inaugural Melbourne Press Freedom Dinner, hosted by the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance, the Melbourne Press Club, the Walkley Foundation and the International Federation of Journalists.
Proceeds from the night will go to the Media Safety & Solidarity Fund, which gives emergency assistance to journalists and their families.
